Thanks to all who attended our Summit on System of Care on Oct. 19th!

An estimated 735,000 children and youth in Texas have a mental illness. Left untreated, behavioral health concerns among children can lead to multiple hospitalizations, substance abuse, antisocial behaviors, and penetration into deeper-end service systems, including the child welfare, juvenile or criminal justice systems.

Experts from national, state, and local perspectives came to talk about a promising approach shown to be effective at promoting positive outcomes for children and youth with complex behavioral health needs and their families while keeping them in their homes and communities at the Promising Practices in Serving Children with Complex Behavioral Health Needs and Their Families: System of Care in Texas Summit.

  • Event Agenda
  • National Perspective: Presentation by Dr. Gary Blau, Chief of Child, Adolescent and Family Branch of the Center for Mental Health Services, SAMHSA
  • State Perspective: Presentation by Mike Maples, Assistant Commissioner for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Texas Dept. of State Health Services
  • Community Perspectives: Presentations by Texas Communities Implementing Systems of Care
  • Blog post on the summit: "How a Simple Concept Can Help Solve a Complex Problem"

This Texas Children's Mental Health Forum event was cosponsored by the Texas Systems of Care Collaborative, the Texas Integrated Funding Initiative, and the Texas Mental Health Transformation Project.
